Define requirements before architecture
Define data types, source counts, update frequency and desired response times. For video, measure available bandwidth and test connectivity loss. These requirements form the basis for comparing edge and centralized processing.
Evaluate a hybrid approach
One approach processes images at the edge and sends events, snapshots or aggregate data to a central system. Define which data is transmitted, which remains on site and how synchronization works after connectivity returns.
Include ongoing maintenance
Compare hardware, storage, connectivity and administration costs over the same scope. Test software updates, device monitoring, access controls and recovery. The selected architecture should be manageable by the operating team.
